Hi friends! I'm sitting here writing this with my house decked out in twinkling lights, a Christmas candle aglow, and Christmas music playing in the background. It's the middle of December and all is merry! I've worked really hard this year to simplify our Christmas season, identifying the things that bring the most joy, and making those things count! I think when you bring family traditions from two different families, as well as wanting to create some unique ones for your own family, it just takes some time to figure out what is going to stick. This year I'm finally feeling like I might be getting a grasp on it and we have simplified big time. The result has been a peaceful slow down that just feels right. I hope you all have been able to find this as well this season.

That said, I would normally hold off on a curriculum review until after the holidays, however I love this resource we found and used so darn much that I just really want to share it with you!

Addition Facts That Stick by Kate Snow has been the perfect resource for teaching Ivy her addition facts. I finished up the first book in her math curriculum in October and was looking for something that would not only help her to memorize her addition facts, but really understand the concepts of addition. I was listening to a podcast that was featuring the author, Kate Snow, and she was talking about this series she wrote so I decided to give it a try. Instead of drilling flash cards, it teaches the concepts and then has you play math games that help to reinforce those concepts.

You guys. It's brilliant! If your child likes to play games this is perfect! There is a 15 minute lesson once a week and then the rest of the week you just play the game over and over again. It's easy, not too time consuming and so much fun! One of the things that made me so excited to share about this is that it isn't something that is only beneficial if you are homeschooling. This is not an all encompassing math curriculum. It's a supplement specifically for learning addition facts. If you find that your child is struggling in this area, do yourself a favor and pick up this super inexpensive and incredibly valuable resource. I'm so glad I did!

The next couple of weeks are full of all kinds of Christmas goodness, so I won't be back on here until after the holiday, but when I return I'll have a list of books that I read through the fall. There are some really good ones in there, including a book I feel changed my life. That sounds dramatic. But it really did! Stay tuned!

Merry Christmas to my little community!
