Anyone else excited for Christmas?! The Schrader household has spent the last week pulling out bits of Christmas decorations and making our place festive! Before kids I used to hunker down for an afternoon, put on a Christmas movie, and have the house completely decked out by the time I crawled into bed for the night. Now it takes me an entire week between kids strewing the decorations all throughout the house in excitement, finding half of them set up in a makeshift Christmas scene involving ALL the baby dolls and Calico Critters, breaking up arguments, and keeping the two year old from obsessively wanting to plug in every strand of twinkling lights he sees. It's chaos over here people! But so much more lively than it used to be, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Christmas is so much fun to see through your children's eyes. Wonder and excitement for every little thing! One of the things most looked forward to in our home is bringing out the stack of Christmas books. I try to purchase a new one for our home library each year, but it's usually so hard to pick. There are so many good ones out there! If you've been wanting to start your own Christmas book collection, or maybe just wanting to add to your current one, here is a list of our very favorites from ours.

This is our new one this year and it has very quickly become a favorite around here. The illustrations are adorable, and the story is so very charming.

The Bear Books are some of our all time favorite books and this Christmas one does not disappoint! It's a sweet story of the importance of giving and friendship and it's just an all around win!

by Jane O'Connor
This one isn't specific to Christmas, however snow globes always make me think of Christmas time so I pull it out with the rest of my collection. All about the family living in the snow globe that longs for someone to pick up the globe and give it a shake so they can play in the snow. The cutest!

This is the picture book version of the classic read aloud and is probably my very favorite that we own. It's the story of the Herdman siblings who take over the annual church Christmas pageant. It will have you laughing until you actually start crying at the simplicity of its message. It's a beautiful story.

by Patricia Scarry
I bought this one last year for our youngest, but all three of our kids have loved it! A classic scratch & sniff story!

by Colleen Monroe
I picked this one up from a used book sale and was so happy I did! It's the sweet story of an overgrown tree that has been passed up for Christmas year after year. You won't be sorry with this one!

I had a dear friend send this charming story to us several years ago and it is such a winner! I have a daughter that constantly wants to make gifts for people, and this story totally resonates with her. Plus if you like to knit there is a bonus knitting pattern inside!

This is another new one for us. The illustrations in this version of The Nutcracker are absolutely stunning! Each page plays a piece of Tchaikovsky's famous ballet. I am doing a study with the girls on The Nutcracker in December and I didn't own any versions of it. There are a lot out there to choose from, and I am so glad I picked this one! It's engaging and beautiful!

There are so many fun Christmas books out there, and I'd love to hear what your favorites are! I'm always adding to my own collection! All of my links go directly to Amazon and right now they have a book promotion going on for $5 off of a $20 or more book purchase with code NOVBOOK18. It ends December 1 at midnight, so snatch some of these up while the discount lasts!
Merry reading!
