We love a good art project around here. I can't seem to keep up with the number of art supplies my girls go through. As I type, nearly all of our markers are low on ink and my girls keep reminding me every time they take them out. Coloring, drawing, painting, gluing, cutting, stickers, you name it. Sometimes they like to be guided through a project, and other times they close themselves into the school room for over an hour and create. Either way, I love that they are developing a real desire to make things.
When we moved into our new house it was important to me to have a space for them that kept all of their art supplies in places that were easily accessible to them whenever they wanted. I wanted them to be able to start a project without having to ask me to get stuff out or help them. We set up a table that can host a project for as long as needed without having to pick it all up and it's been a total game changer. Once your little one is somewhat trustworthy with the art supplies without supervision, it would be my number one suggestion. It's a great way to get them to use their imagination, and kids LOVE to feel ownership of things. It's a total win!
About a year ago I was introduced to Art For Kids and I quickly realized this would be the best $3 a month I would ever spend. Art For Kids is a subscription service that was started by a really cool dad and includes his even cooler kids. They produce one new video art lesson a week that gives step by step instructions on how to draw any number of cute images and popular kids characters. The website says it's for ages 5-13, however Ivy started at 4 and was able to draw plenty of the images they have on the site. I find that for our perfectionist daughter, she really feels accomplished after each drawing. It's fun and engaging and a great way to introduce your kids to the foundations of drawing. For those that are older, there are also lots of videos that introduce more advanced skills such as shading, blending and perspective.

Okay down to the nitty gritty. You guys the cost of membership to this site is a mere $3/month. It's crazy cheap. And so, so worth it. However, if you feel like that's just too much for your pocketbook (does anyone still call it that?), you can totally still have access to many of the video lessons on his site. However, there are ads on them, so if that seems annoying to you, skip a coffee and buy the membership. Art For Kids has been a weekly thing in our home for the last year, and we continue to use it as part of our homeschooling routine. The Schrader Schoolhouse loves it!
*This is not a sponsored post. I'm merely a huge fan that wants to share with everyone else about how awesome it is. Enjoy!
