Our Favorite Picture Books

It's starting to get cooler here in Central Oregon, and that always makes me think of sitting in front of our fireplace and reading a big stack of books. Our kids have always loved books. We visit the library several times a month and leave with all of us having to carry a huge bag out to the car. We also buy a lot of books for our home library. Reading is a big part of every day in the Schrader Schoolhouse and that's just how we like it. I listened to a podcast a couple of years ago that mentioned how important it was to read to your kids aloud, even when you're not sure if they are listening. I really loved that philosophy and quickly adopted it for my own. I often pick up our read aloud during breakfast or lunch, or even mid-morning while the girls are coloring or playing. I'm always amazed at how much the girls can reiterate to me from what we read. Especially our three year old! There are times I don't think she's listening at all and then she reacts to something that is happening in the story! It's given me such confirmation that reading aloud is always beneficial.
